Figures: Moby Dick [モビーディック・フィギュア]

The second major figure run for the BioHazard series was handled by the company Moby Dick (モビーディック). A lack of cataloguing online leads me to think these figures were all released across 2000, and 2001, as the figures lack any form of dating on their heels to work from. The range certainly is impressive, first starting with a number of Biohazard 3 only characters and monsters, before branching out and doing figures for the others games of the series. Most of them have very impressive sculpts, and a lot of them are quite rare to find these days. The only complaint I have with the series is the fact that they aren't really figurines, but instead bordering more on lightly posable statues. That, along with incredibly brittle and easily damageable joint pins, is the major downfall of the series. Otherwise, an incredible run.

Moby Dick have done some minor work in Biohazard before, with the special Biohazard 2 VHS set featuring two variants of a William Birkin sculpt by the company, but their major work is the Biohazard 3 series of figures. One day, when I've moved and have more space, I'll enjoy displaying my entire Moby Dick range on their stands with all their accessories, as I have them all but the majority of them are in storage. Until then, I display them with the bare minimum, as I do not have the space for them to all be using their stands, let alone their large myriad of weaponry.

FIGURE [MD01]

Title: BioHazard 3 Real Shock Action Figure Nemesis Type-III (バイオハザード3リアルショックアクションフィギュア ネメシス・タイプIII) [MD01]
Released: 2000/1
Retail: N/A
Size: 24"/60cm

Information:
The grand-daddy of the entire Moby Dick series. Nemesis Type-III is an utterly monstrous figure. So much so he actually has to live on top of my computer tower instead of camping out with the rest of the figure crew. There were two ways to get a Nemesis Type-III figure. If you were in Japan you could send in your proof of purchase (barcodes/box tabs) through to a sweepstakes and win the figure in full, or if you were insane enough, buy enough of the boxed sets to get all the pieces to Nemesis. A full boxed set of the entire Moby Dick figure run doesn't guarantee a full set of parts.

This figure has an interesting history. This one came from a fellow collector of Biohazard in Australia, who had to sell off his collection due to his girlfriend being freaked out by it (ah, the things we do for love.) Despite only having four back spikes in the photo, I assure you I do have all seven of them, I just simply attached what i could for the shots. Due to the fact they never, ever like to sit in properly I keep most of them stored safely so I don't lose them down the track. From what I know, this one was actually pieced together through getting all the pieces in the boxed sets. It's really sad hearing that a collection has to go, but sometimes it's better when you know it's going into another collectors hands. But I will say this other collector had to be strong. He entirely disassembled Nemesis for shipping, and I discovered on my end just how hard this thing is to put together due to how the joint plugs are cut. A tiny bit of filing and some vaseline and we had a built figure, but talk about a way to shred your hands!

Title: BioHazard 3 Real Shock Action Figure Jill Valentine Last Escape Ver. (バイオハザード3リアルショックアクションフィギュア ジル・バレンタイン ラストエスケープ Ver.) [MD01]
Released: 2000/1
Retail: 5,300円 (Dual Blister)
Size: 7"/19cm

Information:
Series 1 of the figures launches with dual blister box. The two pack features both Jill (Last Escape Version) and a Drain Deimos. I've personally never been a fan of the Moby Dick sculpt of Jill, which is a shame because she got so many figures. Both the Moby Dick figures, and the NECA Jill figure suffer the same issue of same-pose syndrome. This mold was used twice, once for this outfit, once again for the Regina variant, while the S.T.A.R.S. version has a permanent hunched up shoulders sculpt which was used for Rebecca's figure as well.

Title: BioHazard 3 Real Shock Action Figure Drain Deimos (バイオハザード3 リアルショックアクションフィギュア ドレイン・デイモス) [MD01]
Released: 2000/1
Retail: 5,300円 (Dual Blister)
Size: 9"/23cm

Information:
Series 1 of the figures launches with dual blister box. The two pack features both Jill (Last Escape Version) and a Drain Deimos. The Drain Deimos is one ugly B.O.W. that was unique to the third game of the series. All of his claws are posable, to the extent I used to actually have him hang by his claws from my console shelving. One of the few Moby Dick figures that has remained in tact (see point in introduction blurb about the joints) in my collection despite age.

Title: BioHazard 3 Real Shock Action Figure Jill Valentine S.T.A.R.S. Ver. (バイオハザード3リアルショックアクションフィギュア ジル・バレンタイン S.T.A.R.S. Ver.) [MD01]
Released: 2000/1
Retail: 5,300円 (Dual Blister)
Size: 7"/19cm

Information:
Series 2 again features a dual blister box. This time, we've got original S.T.A.R.S. Jill paired up with a Hunter Beta. I've personally never been a fan of the Moby Dick sculpt of Jill, which is a shame because she got so many figures. Both the Moby Dick figures, and the NECA Jill figure suffer the same issue of same-pose syndrome. The S.T.A.R.S. version has hunched up shoulders so that she looks great when she's aiming, but looks terrible in a static pose. My figure is missing her side pack, which was missing before I got her from her previous owner.

Title: BioHazard 3 Real Shock Action Figure Hunterβ (バイオハザード3リアルショックアクションフィギュア ハンターβ) [MD01]
Released: 2000/1
Retail: 5,300円 (Dual Blister)
Size: 8"/20cm

Information:
Series 2 again features a dual blister box. This time, we've got original S.T.A.R.S. Jill paired up with a Hunter Beta. Again, like the Drain Deimos, this guy is an ugly piece of work. The beta series of Hunters are both a bit on the herp-derp side and have a face only a mother could love. This is a seriously hefty figure, one of the weightiest of the series thanks to that upper bulk. The mouth on mine officially creeps me out, since it seems to just go on forever since the back of it isn't sealed.

Title: BioHazard 3 Real Shock Action Figurine Jill Valentine Regina Ver. (バイオハザード3リアルショックアクションフィギュア ジル・バレンタイン レジナ Ver.) [MD01]
Released: 2000/1
Retail: 5,300円 (Dual Blister)
Size: 7"/19cm

Information:
Series 3 was yet another dual blister box. For a twist, we've now got Jill in Regina's outfit from the original Dino Crisis, paired with a Brain Sucker. I've personally never been a fan of the Moby Dick sculpt of Jill, which is a shame because she got so many figures. Out of the lot, though, I think this one is my favourite, mainly due to the awesome outfit. Otherwise I utterly abhor this sculpt and it's useless hands that can't even hold the weapons the figure was issued with.

Title: BioHazard 3 Real Shock Action Figure Series 3 Brain Sucker (バイオハザード3 リアルショックアクションフィギュア ブレイン・サッカー) [MD01]
Released: 2000/1
Retail: 5,300円 (Dual Blister)
Size: 7"/19cm

Information:
Series 3 was yet another dual blister box. For a twist, we've now got Jill in Regina's outfit from the original Dino Crisis, paired with a Brain Sucker. This guy is the other Biohazard 3 exclusive B.O.W., and like the Drain Deimos is utterly creepy, especially with its dual face. This guy also has some really neat things going on with claws and arms, and it's really all over the place. I also had this guy doing acrobatics for a while from my console shelves since he's pretty grippy with his claw stumps. Another one of the Moby Dick figures in my collection that hasn't subsumed under the prone joint issues.

Title: BioHazard 3 Real Shock Action Figure Carlos Olivera (バイオハザード3リアルショックアクションフィギュア カルロス・オリヴェイラ) [MD01]
Released: 2000/1
Retail: 5,300円 (Dual Blister)
Size: 7.5"/19.5cm

Information:
Series 4 was the final series in Japan to feature a dual blister box. Finally, our resident boy toy from BH3 appears. This set features both Carlos, and the mighty Nemesis Type-I. I think Carlos is one of the best figures of the Moby Dick series, and certainly the pick of the crop from all the guy figures in the set (especially once you see Leon's amazing pink nails.) Very well sculpted, and quite sought after now since he was only released in the blister with Nemesis. It's nice that he got a good figure, though, since it's his only one.

Title: BioHazard 3 Real Shock Action Figurine Nemesis Type-I (バイオハザード3リアルショックアクションフィギュア ネメシス・タイプI) [MD01]
Released: 2000/1
Retail: 5,300円
Size: 10"/25cm

Information:
Series 4 was the final series in Japan to feature a dual blister box. This set features both Carlos, and the mighty Nemesis Type-I. This is a hefty figure, and the coolest part about this figure is the actual trench ensemble Nemesis wears. Instead of being a hard-sculpt like the rest of the clothing goods on other figures in the series, Nemmy features rubber for the overcoat, which is a really nice touch. This Nemesis sculpt only comes with the one face, but the Type-II which was released down the track actually featured an open mouth variant. The nice thing is because they did do a larger sculpt for him, he's practically to scale with the other figures in the series, which makes Jill look tiny alongside him.

Title: BioHazard 3 Real Shock Action Figure Claire Redfield BioHazard 2 Ver. (バイオハザード3リアルショックアクションフィギュア クレア・レッドフィルド バイオハザード2 Ver.) [MD01]
Released: 2000/1
Retail: 3,200円
Size: 7"/19cm

Information:
Now this is where the series gets really tricky. See, in Japan, Series 5 was the start of the solo blister sets. So instead of being one huge boxed version with two figures, we're down to single figures + accessories + Nemesis piece. The single blisters mainly saw the smaller components like the back spikes for Nemmy-bits but that's it. The US releases, however, still did boxed sets. So the US release of this Claire Redfield figure actually saw her released alongside the Nemesis Type-II figure...

... but since these are the JP issues that's not the case here so moving on! My Claire is sadly missing her pony tail which was lost either by the prior owner before selling, or it got lost in transit when he packed them all. It's simply a matter of re sculpting it down the track, but I've never gotten around to it. Unlike the rest of the ladies in the series, the Claire figures have really gorgeous sculpts. They have both lovely faces (true to CG model), and bodies which cater to both aim poses and static poses. Given Claire has a very small figure run, it's nice to see a high quality figure of her.

Title: BioHazard 3 Real Shock Action Figure Nemesis Type-II (バイオハザード3リアルショックアクションフィギュア ネメシス・タイプII) [MD01]
Released: 2000/1
Retail: 3,200円
Size: 10"/25cm

Information:
The Type-II version of Nemesis rolls in as "Series 6" (I guess they kept the series thing going despite the fact they were solo packs now just to keep a run number going) and much like his previous incarnation, is an impressive figure. The Type-II comes with two head sculpts, a static face and an enraged face (currently in storage) and features rubber for the remains of his coat. The only downside to this figure is the patented Moby Dick faulty joints/settings, as I've had a tentacle or two decided to just come off over time while on display. All fixable, but still a frustrating thing.

Title: BioHazard 3 Real Shock Action Figure Chris Redfield CODE: Veronica Ver (バイオハザード3リアルショックアクションフィギュア クリス・レッドフィルド コード:ベロニカ Ver.) [MD01]
Released: 2000/1
Retail: 3,200円
Size: 7.5"/19.5cm

Information:
Series 7 brings us the shiny, brand new CODE: Veronica attired Chris, with his S.T.A.R.S. combat greens on. Not a bad sculpt, he's actually got quite a nice face, but I still think Carlos takes the man-cake out of the boy figures. I do love that this is the CODE:Veronica version of Chris, though, since the outfit is much nicer than his original S.T.A.R.S. outfit, in my opinion.
